Happy Holidays!

With so much going on at our school this year the first term has gone by extremely quickly and Winter Break is already here!  We are sad to be losing our Socials/Drama teacher, Amy Fonseca, who will be relocating to Kamloops with her family.  She has done an amazing job with our Drama and Socials Studies programs.  We will certainly miss her resourcefulness, hard work, and dedication to our Ideal students.  We wish Amy and her family all the best as they start anew in the ‘Loops’!

At the same time, we welcome Michael Bodnar who will be joining our staff as of January 2017 and taking over the role as our new Socials/Drama teacher.  Michael comes to our school with teaching experience in the Vancouver School Board and teaching overseas in Australia.  We look forward to adding his experience, knowledge, and perspectives to our program.

Just a reminder that school will reopen on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 which is also a Collaboration Day.  Students are to report for School Meeting at 9:30am.  Happy holidays to everyone in our Ideal Mini community!

Japan Sister School Exchange Hosts

Our first Sister School Exchange trip to Japan in November was an amazing success!  Our 13 students had the opportunity to visit some historical sites including ground zero in Hiroshima.  Our group visited our sister school, Y’Ko, and had the opportunity to make new friends while participating in special class activities.

At this point in the program, we are looking for host families from our Ideal Mini community to host our Japanese student guests when they come to Vancouver from February 15-20. 2017.  During their exchange, they will be visiting Ideal Mini and Churchill Secondary and participating in special programs that we will have set up for our guests.  We are still looking for a few more host families that are potentially able to host a Japanese student for these dates.  It is open to families of our Grade 10, 11, or 12 students (possibly Grade 9).  If you are able to host or would like more information please contact Ernie at Ideal.
